IS DR MAHATHIR Mohamad going to take the same “silence is golden” stand as Najib Abdul Razak and his infamous diamond-loving wife Rosmah Mansor when cornered by an issue?
The revelation by the Embassy of Japan that it had paid compensation to the Malaysian government for families of victims of the so called “Death Railway” project in the 1940s is shocking.
The sum of RM207 billion or whatever the amount must be revealed by Mahathir.
He was close to the Japanese government and corporate sector when he promoted his Look East Policy aimed at enhancing trade with Japan.
The money, believed to be amounting to RM207 billion, was meant to be distributed to some 30,000 Malaysians who had been recruited as forced labourers by the Japanese to build the Thai-Burma rail link.
This means each affected family is entitled to receive between RM2.8 million and RM3 million as compensation.
The stinking part of the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government is that the public is today unaware of the compensation payment by the Japanese.
We would have thought Mahathir would have brought the money back from Japan in triumph, like a victorious Roman general.
Umno would have organised a huge gathering of the victims or their families and distributed the money. No, it was all covered in secrecy!
The money rightfully belongs to the victims of the “Death Railway” project and their families and to rob them is despicable!
The money is believed to have been transferred by the Japanese government to Malaysia in the 1990s.
This means it happened during Mahathir’s 22-year reign.
Who then has hijacked or stolen the money?
It is no small sum and surely Mahathir cannot expect us to accept his infamous “I cannot remember” or “I am unaware of such compensation money from Japan”?
This time, Malaysians cannot accept his “selective loss of memory” or “selective amnesia”.
Whoever stole the money from the 30,000 dead Malaysians is/are worse than animals, hitting the depths of greed.
The government must immediately set up a national probe team to track down the thief/thieves to recover the money and for prosecution.
Surely there are paper trails, beginning with the transfer/s from the Japanese to the Malaysian government.
Meanwhile, Japan can do further justice to the 30,000 Malaysian forced labourers who died in the “Death Railway” project by revealing their identities so that their families are traced.
And, as for Mahathir who said five years of Pakatan Rakyat (PR)-rule is dangerous because BN will have no chance to return to power, I say, “Good riddance”.
After 55 years of misrule, it is time to retire Umno permanently.
With mounting and rising federal debts at RM620 billion or 74% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), meaning the BN is operating way above the 55% federal debt ceiling, that is more dangerous to Malaysians and the country.
If, for some reason, our oil wells suddenly run dry, we will immediately be deemed a bankrupt nation and untold misery would befall all Malaysians.
Also, a point to show why PR is more dependable is that the financial management of the PR states, debuting in 2008, has been acknowledged by the Auditor-General as more superior than the states governed by the BN.
And your silence over reports of your US$44 billion (more than RM132 billion) in accumulated wealth is even more dangerous.
And with you now seemingly trying to engineer your son, Mukhriz, to rise as prime minister by or before the 14th General Election, it is the ultimate danger for Malaysians and Malaysia.

Embassy confirms HUGE compensation paid, but what did Dr M do with it?
The Embassy of Japan has today confirmed that it had paid money to the Malaysian government being compensation for families of victims of the so-called 'Death Railway' project in the 1940s.
Jejak, the PAS-backed secretariat led by Bukit Gantang member of parliament Nizar Jamaluddin, visited the embassy today in a bid to unravel truth over some RM207 billion in unpaid compensation. Also present were PAS Youth vice chief Raja Iskandar Al-Hiss and Jejak operation chief Safarizal Saleh.
The secretariat was formed to track down next-of-kins of those forced to work in the 'Death Railway'.
Jejak quoted the embassy's second secretary Takaharu Suegami as saying that the money was transfered in the 1990s, but added that his office would have to consult Tokyo to get further details.
Suegami however said Japan had no details about how the money was distributed by the Malaysian government.
Nizar had claimed that he had received documents proving that the RM207 billion from Tokyo was received as far back as 2004.
The money was meant to be distributed to some 30,000 Malaysians who had been recruited as forced labourers. The RM207 billion in compensation means each affected family is entitled to receive between RM2.8 and RM3 million.
Nizar meanwhile urged the Japanese government to provide names of Malaysians who worked in the 'Death Railway' project. – Harakahdaily

We have had close to 5 years of PR rule in Penang, Selangor, Kedah - and more in Kelantan. Where's the danger ? On the contrary people living near Lyanas are the ones put in danger !

- Large numbers of poor Malays (despite 40 years of NEP) & the Federal & State Governments controlled completely by UMNO Malays.
- Massive losses (in billions RM) suffered by the country in MAS, Port Klang, tin & forex trading
- The sorry state of affairs (independence & professionalism) in the judiciary, police, MACC, AG Chambers.
- RM 52 out of RM54 billion (at IPO price) bumi equity that was disposed for quick profit which has resulted in the 30% bumi equity being a contentious issue even today
- Rampant corruption (through direct awards at obacene prices, bailouts & financial subsidy/grants to cronies, granting of Government & timber lands at dirt cheap prices, etc) which has become an incurable disease
- Selected UMNO Malays, war lords, cronies & family (e.g. Mahathir's billionaire son) being so filthy rich when large number of rakyat remain poor.
- Untold misery to the masses through "artifically inflated" car prices due to protection of Proton & AP beneficiaries.
- Systematic discrimination & marginalization of the non-muslim minorities due to blatant abuse of Article 153 based not on reasonable proportion but rather abnormal & obscene proportion
- Lopsided Agreements with the IPP & Tolled Road Operators, etc
- Racial disharmony mistrust & hatred being promoted & reinforced.

The last time I met a friend who was born after the Tin-bust, I asked him in jest, “Do you know what Ipoh's famous for?”
He gave me a blank look. Anyway, not wasting any time, I told him, “Tin-lah.” “If there is no tin, Ipoh wouldn’t be here. It would be just another Orang Asli settlement. He squinted his eyes and responded, “Are you sure? I thought it was Ngar-Choy-Kai.”

Thanks to Barisan Nasional for single-handedly transforming Ipoh from a rich and bustling Tin-City to a Ngar-Choy-Kai (Bean-Sprout with Chicken) industry. Ipoh never recovered from this fatal stroke of incompetence and greed to corner the World Tin Market. As a result of this, the once vibrant Tin Industry was totally wiped out.

It all started with a shady Egyptian tin trader by the name of David Zaidner. He worked for the commodities firm Marc Rich & Co in Switzerland. (I'll ask my children to remember their names!). Actually, he first approached the Indonesian government thinking that they were stupid enough to buy his idea of cornering the tin market. But the Indonesians smelled a con job and had him kicked out of the country.

Next, he couldn't believe his lucky stars when his idea was accepted with enthusiasm by our then brand-new Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir. A plan was quickly hatched to corner the World Tin market.

In December 1980, the state-owned Malaysian Mining Corp. Bhd (MMC) named Marc Rich as its trading agent in a move that would shock the world commodities industry. Secret large tin purchases were made on the London Metal Exchange and went unabated throughout 1981, inducing a worldwide price increase. The strategy was cheap and simple. Malaysia had to only pay a 10 percent deposit against three-month's forward purchase contracts.

When the price of tin shot up in the world market, the Malaysian government thought it had scored a huge victory. But unexpectedly, the price increase attracted many world producers to increase tin production and even the United States began selling from its huge strategic stockpiles to take advantage of the Malaysian-induced price rises.

Subsequently, Malaysia amassed about 50,000 tons of tin and had no other choice but to keep buying just to keep prices up (being "shot-squeezed"). Production continued to soar and even unheard-of suppliers started to turn up to cash in on the high tin price. The world tin market went berserk and it crashed. (The Palm Oil market could face the same faith! - oh, maybe not, because FELDA/FELCRA are involved.)

Malaysia lost an estimated US$250 million on its failure to honour forward contracts, and another local bank lost another US$1 billion in separate losses on loans it had made covertly out of its Hong Kong subsidiary.

For five years Mahathir categorically denied that Malaysia had anything to do with the plan but as outside pressure mounted, Mahathir finally revealed the details in 1986. Marc Rich was finally indicted and arrested then extradited to the United States and convicted of massive tax fraud.

Think of the billions of ringgit taken out of our economy in Perak when the tin price went bust. Had Mahathir not meddled with the tin price, we wouldn't have lost 30 years of Tin export income. Perak wouldn't have been relegated from one of the richest states to a poor one like today.

Another good example akin to the Perak demise is Terengganu. If all the oil royalties go to the people of Terengganu, Terengganu would be an advanced state at par with Selangor. But unfortunately, these royalties go to the pockets of BN politicians and cronies in the form of “Duit Esan”.

If BN gets kicked out of office at the next GE,
it can come back to power later if it truly reforms
(like Taiwan's Guomindang or KMT;

1) When Anwar Ibrahim was deposed and bashed up (nearly to death) in detention, lots of demonstrations occurred in the Kuala Lumpur area. The public's opinion of what he did to his former DPM was very negative.

2) When he left office as PM, there was a great sigh of relief in Malaysia. His successor Abdullah Badawi and BN did very well in the General Election. Contrast this with the previous GE under him.

3) After leaving office, he even had trouble being elected as an UMNO delegate for his old electoral district Kubang Pasu in Kedah.

4) His supporters nowadays are reduced to the neo-fascists and the highly corrupted from UMNO Baru and BN.

5) It is time for all Malaysians of goodwill, at the next General Election, to unite and tell the world that we totally reject Mahathirism (and UMNO Baru/BN)--- an ideology that condones state-sponsored racial discrimination and semi-apartheid; drives lots of talented Malaysians overseas to seek a living; promotes corrupt & economically inefficient rent-seeking capitalism; promotes divisive social policies and increases social tension; engages in gross wastage of the wealth generated by our oil exports etc

This GE13 is not about BN or PR. It is about a 2 party / coalition system to ensure checks and balances. Everybody knows that a monopolistic system breeds corruption, nepotism and cronyism. This has happened over the last 55 years, and list of failures just go on and on. If a UMNO Wanita leader can get a 250 million project and a deputy UMNO Wanita leader can get a 130 pay off, just imagine what the big wigs UMNO and BN Ministers must be getting. Just a simple submarine purchase already cost 500 million ringgit in consultancy fees. If not for the PR tsunami in 2008, all these scandals would be swept under the carpet. Those who bring them out like RPK will be arrested under the ISA. So Malaysians, for the benefit of our children and their children and their children, let us take this opportunity of GE13 to permanently establish a 2 party system and ensure that at least we minimize corruption if not eradicate it. Only a 2 party system can ensure healthy checks and balances like what is happening now. And finally, if the Mamak is worried about a 2 party system, I am sure there are many countries that will take him, considering he is worth 44 billion USD.
