‘Learn from China, go for change and
reforms’

SEGAMAT (April 28, 2013): Malaysians must
go for a change of government and socio-economic policies to save themselves
and their country.
“Our
progress has been too slow under the Barisan Nasional (BN). After 55 years of
corrupt misrule and abuse of power, we cannot afford to give Najib another five
years,” he added.
“In
1992, when I was in China, the streets in China had very, very few cars. The
Chinese were mostly cycling or riding motorcycles.
“China
was relatively poor and a village man called Deng Xiao Ping told his people
that China would go bankrupt if they did not change and do something about
their socio-economic development policies.
“Today,
after just 21 years, China has overtaken Japan as the world’s No.2 economy. We
were more developed than China in 1992. Where are we now?” Chua said in his ceramahs in Kampung Tengah and Kampung
Abdullah here tonight.
Chua
said Deng and China’s success was due to the people’s brave ability to accept
change and reforms.

“On
May 5, Malaysians must also be as brave as the Chinese nationals to help check
the serious socio-economic rot in Malaysia.
“We
are today surviving on borrowings. The federal debt is rising fast and could
reach RM1 trillion in 2020 if nothing is done about this.
“Do
not expect the corrupt Umno-led BN to heal the economy. It does not care for
the people, its priority is Umno elites and their cronies.
“Just
look at BN-Umno’s record over the years and honestly judge for yourself what is
right and what is wrong. Who are more sincere and capable to lead us,” he said
to a thunderous round of applause.

Chua
said Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim had gone through
“political hell” at the hands of the greedy and corrupt Umno.
“I
joined PKR because I can see he is sincere in wanting to bring about change for
Malaysians and the country. The change that he and we want is a caring and
loving government, not one that cares for cronies.
“Look
at our election manifesto and you will see the many people-friendly promises to
heal our socio-economic ills.
“The
promises outlined are all colour blind. It is for all Malaysians, irrespective
of race or religion,” he added.
For
example, Chua said: “Education is the key to any country’s success. Look at
China. That is why our promise is to provide free education to all our children,
from primary to tertiary levels.
“That
is why we promise to allocate RM300 to every student for their school’s
development every year.
“You
don’t have to beg for funds. It is automatic every year from the PR government,
”he added.
“That
is why we are also writing off all the PTPTN debts to ease the burden of
unemployed graduates and underpaid graduates,”
he added.
